I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Lord willing, it will include:
- The Wedding Celebration of a dear friend of mine.
- Face-to-face reunion with most of the kids in my old youth group (who, amazingly, still call me almost weekly after being away for nearly two years).
- A half-day hike somewhere near Grafton Notch.
- A twilight swim with a loon-song serenade.
- A crisp, early morning swim in Long Lake–so clear you can see bottom from 10 ft.–followed by a cup of coffee and book-reading on the porch.
- A game of fetch with the pooch.
- A game of [anything] with my sister (who’s quite fetching as well, I might add…)
- A game of scrabble with my mom, and horseshoes and/or cribbage with my dad.
Wow. I hope that’s not too much to accomplish in only a few days.
On another note, I find the philosophies of LEX REX, Sola Scriptura, and John 1:1-3 [show] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2]He was in the beginning with God. [3]All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. (ESV)
surprisingly inter-related. I don’t see how anyone could embrace one without the others…it just doesn’t work. Political ideology simply cannot be divorced from theology.

Give my love to the family and lake… miss you bro. Come out and visit sometime.
My mom used to pay me to play her Scrabble, she’s absolutely incredible and was hard pressed to find a match (I’m not claiming to be one). She’d give me a victory every once in awhile to keep me coming back. I introduced her to online Scrabble and she hasn’t shelled out a dollar since. Games, swims, family and friends- can’t go wrong. Hope you get to check off all those wonderful “To Do’s”… is #6 intentionally blank?
What’s number 6?
I wish I could say the blank #6 was some mysterious, exciting thing–left blank to stimulate your curiosity and imagination. But it was just a mistake in my HTML. Boy, how dull is that…?
Sweet. I wish I didn’t know what #6 was, it seemed interesting and artsy until you explained it. Way to be cool on accident.
Who’s getting hitched and do your plans include seeing any Tuesdayers?
J. Lebel is getting hitched and heck yes I’ll be seeing the “Tuesdayers” if at all possible! I’d accounted you guys foreigners already…oops. I’ll give you guys a ring when I get there. Any chance ND will be around?
I thought #6 was as it appeared… nothing.
That is often on my list of things to do on a vacation.
So, how was the weekend?
Better than expected. Nice long nap in a hammock on the deck; no noise but the lapping of the nearby shore, the wind in the trees–and yes, the loonsong. Got beat by my sister in cribbage, and beat my Dad (!!) in horseshoes. Scrabble wasn’t available, unfortunately, but got some qt with Ma and Gram anyhow. Baxter (the pooch) was a lean, mean, swimming machine–when he wasn’t resting on my lap in the shallow water (pictures forthcoming)…good times. Great time with the church family in Biddeford. Got to fly home instead of drive (13 Hours), which is nice. No hike this trip, though–maybe next time…thanks for asking!
…oh, and of course, hot coffee and a couple of homemade donuts from Alice’s Bakery for breakfast at Dawn.
All of the above, spells ‘Home.’
Home sounds nice. You beat your dad in horseshoes? Congrats. In my family, a game won in horseshoes is guaranteed bragging rights until the following Thanksgiving. The uncles and guy cousins play while it seems the ladies run around trying to put together a dinner for 50+ people. All your mention of home made me sad, but I just remembered that I videotaped last Christmas which should get me through the holidays in China. I need to go find that tape although I’d rather be napping in a hammock.
I think it’s awesome/hilarious/ironic that you’re heading to China with ELIC. My first two mission trips, as I’m sure you remember, were with them – I was on the first Camp China trip to Beijing back in the day. Please be sure to send be a support letter – I’ll email you with my mailing address – I’d love to help.
